The Grapes Are Sour

One sunny afternoon, a hungry fox was wandering through the forest in search of food. After a long walk, he stumbled upon a vineyard. High above on a trellis hung a bunch of plump, juicy grapes. They glistened in the sunlight, looking ripe and delicious.

The fox licked his lips. “Those grapes look perfect. Just what I need!”

He backed up, ran, and jumped — but missed. He tried again, leaping as high as he could, but the grapes were still out of reach. Determined, he jumped over and over, but each attempt ended in failure. The grapes were simply too high.

Panting and tired, the fox finally gave up. His legs ached, and his pride was hurt. Looking back at the grapes one last time, he sniffed and said loudly, “I don’t even want them. They’re probably sour anyway!”

With that, he turned and walked away, pretending not to care.

But deep inside, the fox knew he was disappointed.
